| Note | | Westerly - Wesley Wedemeyer Winans, beloved son of David Ross Winans Jr., of Englewood, Fla., and Kathryn Wedemeyer Winans, of Stonington, died Monday after a long and plucky struggle with cancer. He was 45 years old.
Wes was born in Westerly, where he attended local schools. He was first employed by the Electric Boat Division of General Dynamics both in Groton and at Quonsett Point. A housepainter for many years, he later worked at Cove Edge Bait and Tackle and most recently as a property manager for Bob and Monique King of Watch Hill Road, Westerly. He also ran a small business, Terrapin's Custom Tackle, making and repairing custom-built fishing rods.
Wes was a friend to all animals, a buoyant storyteller, and a sparkling, mischievous soul.
An avid student of nature and an accomplished fisherman, he is survived by his parents; his brother, David R. Winans III; his sister, Molly Winans Cooper; his stepmother, Nancy C. Winans; his stepsister, Melissa B. Sinclair; and his stepbrother, Peter C. Bogart.
A memorial service will be held at the Watch Hill Chapel on Monday, August 8th at 11 a.m.
Contributions in Wes's memory may be made to the Denison Pequotsepos Nature Center in Mystic, or to Hospice of Southeastern Connecticut.
Arrangements are by Buckler-Johnson Funeral Home in Westerly. |
